Ingredients

  • For the crust: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold), 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • For the filling: 3 cups sliced tart apples, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • For the salted caramel: 1 cup granulated sugar, 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, 1/2 cup heavy cream, sea salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the crust by mixing flour, sugar, and salt, then cut in cold butter until crumbly. Press into a baking dish and bake for 15 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, toss apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Spread over partially baked crust.
  3. Cook sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until amber, then add butter and heavy cream, stirring until smooth. Add sea salt and simmer for 2 minutes. Pour caramel over apple layer.
