  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or minced beef
  • 4 large potatoes, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional for topping)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a large oven-proof skillet or baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat, then add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  4. Add the ground beef, paprika, dried thyme, salt, and pepper and cook until browned, breaking it apart while cooking.
  5. Remove from heat. Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
  6. Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly over the potatoes and top with the remaining potato slices.
  7. Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the top and season with additional salt and pepper if needed. Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese if desired.
  8. Bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes until potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown, broil for extra crispiness if desired.
  9. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Use thinly sliced potatoes for even cooking.
  • Add sliced vegetables like carrots or bell peppers for flavor.
  • For a spicier kick, include red pepper flakes.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
