Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup whole milk or buttermilk
- Optional: 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup for a hint of sweetness
Instructions
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl to ensure even distribution of leavening agents.
- Add cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and cut in using a pastry cutter or fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually pour in milk, stirring gently until dough just comes together. Avoid overmixing.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly. Pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle and cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter or glass rim.
- Place biscuits on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter during the last few minutes if desired.
Notes
- Cool biscuits completely before storing. Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
- Reheat in a warm oven or toaster oven to restore crispiness.
- For savory variations, add shredded cheese, herbs, or cooked bacon before baking.
