Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a heavy saucepan, combine butter, sugar, and salt over medium heat.
- Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and cook until mixture reaches 300°F (149°C) or hard crack stage.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour the hot caramel mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts and festive decorations on top while still warm.
- Allow to cool completely and then break into pieces.
Notes
- Use a candy thermometer for accurate temperature.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of sea salt or a splash of bourbon before pouring onto the tray.
